Who’s that girl? It’s Jess! …And Grace!
In the latest episode of the Billboard video series “Quizzed,” Zooey Deschanel visits New Girl superfan Grace VanderWaal at her soundcheck to test her knowledge when it comes to trivia related to all things Jessica Day & Co. to find out if she is, in fact, the world’s biggest New Girl fan.
Sitting at a table on the stage at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, Deschanel and VanderWaal are surrounded by props from the show that any New Girl fan would love to get their hands on, including some knitting, Jess Day’s glasses, and that adorable sparkly tiny hat that she wore (and VanderWaal gets to wear the glasses and the hat for the duration of the episode).
Broken up into three different rounds, the first round consists of true or false questions, such as whether Jess broke up with Robby because they found out they were second cousins, if the name of Schmidt’s councilwoman girlfriend was Elizabeth, and if Winston interrupted Cece’s wedding by playing the “Cha-Cha Slide.”
In the second round, which entails answering general trivia questions, VanderWaal is asked what Jess dressed up as for Nick’s dad’s funeral, what Schmidt’s real first name is, and what bathroom item Nick and Schmidt unknowlingly share.
Posed with the question of which famous musician’s party Jess and Cece are invited to after almost getting hit by a car, VanderWaal excitedly (and correctly) answers Prince, noting, “My mom loves that episode!”
Asked how Nick leaves a room whenever he is uncomfortable, the singer accurately replies that he moonwalks, adding, “I love that! I’ve used that before.”
In the final round, VanderWaal is asked to match quotes to the character who said them, including hilarious lines such as “I’ve got two perfectly good forks at the end of my arms” and “Are you cooking a frittata in a sauce pan? What is this, prison?”
Ultimately, VanderWaal earns herself a feeling-stick prize for her New Girl prowess. Asked by Deschanel if she has any feelings to share, a teary-eyed VanderWaal replies, “I feel so overwhelmed!”
You can watch the adorable full episode above, and make sure you watch until the end to see VanderWaal play the ukulele as she and Deschanel sing the show’s theme song together.
